Advanced Medical Support Assistant

Perform receptionist duties, customer service and other duties assigned for the proper and timely treatment of patients. Maintain appointment schedules for one or more clinics. Assist with clinic access contingency plans by adjusting appointment times, location, or dates as well as shift patients to other healthcare providers as conflict with staffing and/or coverage occurs. Schedule appointments and monitor clinic access Conduct daily review of consults and wait lists. Work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. Coordinate with the patient care team to review the clinic utilization by using various reports. Ensure that the clinic setup is closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the clinic and make any necessary adjustments. Develop/maintain effective and efficient communication with the patient, interdisciplinary team, VA medical centers, and other agencies. Participate in team huddles and team meetings to manage and plan patient care, set priorities and deadlines, and adjust the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs. Work with the team to reinforce the plan of care and self-help solutions and entering appropriate information into the electronic record. Monitor pre-appointment requirements to assure readiness for patient visit/procedure (e.g., X-ray, lab work). Manage electronic wait list to verify and validate accuracy and resolve issues. Participate and provide input in problem solving on operational issues or procedures in team meetings. Perform administrative follow up actions. Designated scheduling subject matter expert and also trains other MSA's in VHA scheduling techniques. Responsible for tracking new enrollees to the health care system and making their initial appointment in accordance with the new enrollee time lines. Work Schedule:

Experience:
Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR Education:
One year above high school (Transcripts required); OR Experience/Education Combination:
Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable (Transcripts required) Grade Determinations:

Experience:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5). Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirement, Candidates must demonstrate the KSAs below:
1. Ability to collaborate, communicate, set priorities, and organize the work in order to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations. 2. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, both orally and in writing, in order to meet program objectives. This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels. 3. Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process as it relates to access to care. 4. Advanced knowledge of managing a clinic. This includes independently utilizing reference sources, decision making, and empowering the team to collaborate and resolve problems within a complex systems environment. 5. Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with operational activities that affect the patient flow, patient care, and the revenue process. 6. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians. References:

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
